Learning Leatherworking: Part 1 - Gathering Supplies and Getting Scared

My interest in leatherwork dates back to many years ago, but it wasn't until June 2022 that I began to seriously consider learning it. I was having multiple health issues due to a major burnout from handling my business, so as someone who tends to turn an interest into a business venture, taking up on a new skill might not actually be a good idea at that time. However, it could still be a good idea; a chance for me to focus on learning a new skill for the sake of learning and not selling. After doing some deep contemplation (including asking for divine guidance) and online research, I started my leatherworking adventure.

My initial DIY starter kit, costing RM476.17. It took me quite some time to gather the supplies for my own starter kit. I would love to have a more completed toolset but since this interest would not earn back any money, I decided to get only the ones that I actually needed (and would add more as necessary) instead of spending on things that I might not use at all. Even then, there are still two or three things from this kit that I haven't used to this day.

As excited as I was getting all my essential supplies together, I still couldn't find the right time and muster enough motivation to get my hands on any project. All I did was studying the books as if I was going to sit for an exam. For some reason, I didn't have much confidence about this one unlike my previous interests. I think I was afraid of messing up and wasting leather. Genuine leather — although not that expensive — is a precious resource to me. After stalling for a few months, I could feel that I was losing passion. The heavy cloud that had been hovering over my head began to shed droplets of doubt and regret, until...
